The Formal Garden

Through arches covered with roses, clematises and honeysuckles and presided over by two classical statues, Pan and Baccate, the lawn is interspesed with formal mixed shrub and perennial beds. All the old favouites are here, delphiniums, paeonies, irises and lupins but also many unusual and interesting plants. The shade border under the magnificent copper beeches is filled with hostas and helibores which thrive in the damp soil. White foxgloves are allowed to self seed in some of the borders and on the banks.
